Dodge Charger vs Chrysler 300

Sedans these days come in just about every shape and size you can imagine, from small 2-door sport coupes to massive muscle cars designed to tear up the road, to the most comfortable and luxurious driving experiences you can imagine. The Chrysler brand has made a name for itself offering the best in sedans from its earliest days making vehicles in 1925. These days, they cover the gamut, and two of their most well-known vehicles are the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger.

Drivers across Chittenden County, in places like South Burlington or St. Albans, want vastly different things from their vehicles, and they may be curious as to whether the new Dodge Charger or the Chrysler 300 is the better car for them. Let's look at the similarities and differences between the two as we compare the 2018 Dodge Charger and 2018 Chrysler 300, so you can make the best choice.

2018 Chrysler 300 vs 2018 Dodge Charger Engines

Both the 2018 Chrysler 300 and the 2018 Dodge Charger excel in the area of performance. Of course, the Charger is going to deliver a bit more, as it's styled after its classic muscle car legacy. Still, both models are very solid, and each begins with a base 3.6-liter V6 engine that puts out about 300 horsepower.

Higher levels, however, allow the Charger to take the lead. The Chrysler's top engine is a 5.7-liter V8 HEMI which delivers 363 horsepower, whole the Charger's similar engine delivers 370. From there, you can kick it up to the Charger's 6.4-liter V8 HEMI which gives you 485 horses, and the top-end Hellcat trim gives you a supercharged V8 which delivers an astounding 707 horses. It's the single most powerful full-sized sedan on the market today.

Interior Design and Comfort

When it comes to interior design and comfort, the Charger is no slouch, but this is where the Chrysler 300 excels. Both vehicles have 38.6 inches of headroom up front, with 41.8 inches of leg space. In the back, however, the 300 gives you 37.9 inches of headroom, while in the Charger only gives back seat passengers 36.6 inches. In the trunk, perhaps surprisingly, the Charger actually comes out on top. It has 16.5 cubic feet of storage compared to the 16.3 cubic feet in the 300. It's only a few inches difference, however.

When it comes to interior trappings, the 300 wins. It's out to deliver a pure luxury experience, with the highest quality materials and touches, to compete with some of the highest luxury sedans on the market, but without the commensurate luxury cost or badging. Still, the Dodge Charger knows it's a car under the Chrysler umbrella and it also offers a fairly luxurious and comfortable ride experience with the best gauges, controls and Uconnect technology infotainment interface.
