Performance and Capability
The Compass comes with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with an output of 175 lb-ft of torque and 180 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional, though the rugged Trailhawk model includes all-wheel drive as standard. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard for lower trim levels. A 6-speed automatic is included with front-wheel drive models, while the all-wheel drive models get a 9-speed automatic.
On the road, the Compass has enjoyable driving dynamics and comfort for daily driving. It exhibits minimal body roll and glides over road imperfections with ease. On the trails, the all-wheel drive equipped models offer stellar capability in rugged environments, especially with the Trailhawk model. This off-road-ready vehicle comes with performance upgrades, such as off-road tires, a raised suspension, skid plates, and the Selec-Terrain® all-wheel drive system to give the Compass grip and confidence on rock surfaces or steep hills.
Interior Space and Comfort
The 2-row Compass comes with five seats that are spacious for adults. The seats are heavily bolstered and comfortable for long drives, and the outward visibility creates an airy feel in the cabin. Though refined, the cabin materials are easy to clean and offer durability for all your adventures.
With all the seats upright, the Compass nets cargo space of 27.2 cubic feet, which expands to 59.8 cubic feet when the seats are folded flat. In addition to having space for camping gear, sports equipment, and luggage, the cargo bay also provides mounted tie-downs for cargo configuration. There are numerous storage bins and cubbies throughout the cabin for storing smaller items, and you can fold down the front-passenger seat for long or awkward cargo. A power liftgate is available for quick and convenient cargo loading.
Technology
The Compass comes with one of the most intuitive infotainment systems on the market-the Uconnect® system with a 7-inch touchscreen. It boasts clear graphics, a user-friendly interface, customizable screen options, and physical knobs and buttons. Smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is also standard, giving you virtually endless options for entertainment from your device. You can upgrade to a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation and a 9-speaker Alpine® premium sound system.
For safety, the Compass includes a rearview camera, but there are many available upgrades. You can equip the Compass with Forward-Collision Warning, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Departure Warning, Parking Sensors, and Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers, among other features. With this technology, you'll be safer and better protected on the road.
