2018 Ram 1500 Technology

The Ram 1500 is a perennial contender for top dog in the light duty pickup truck segment. That's because it offers just about a perfect balance of performance, luxury, and technology that drivers in Chittenden County, South Burlington, and St. Albans love. It is, in fact, one of the very few pickups on the market that actually stops to consider comfort and luxury in its design, while still offering great performance.

So, what can you expect from these technology features this model year? Check out this thorough breakdown of what's available in the 2018 Ram 1500 technology options, packages, and trim levels before you take your test drive.

2018 Ram 1500 Technology: Performance Numbers

Let's start, as any pickup review should, with the 2018 Ram 1500 technology that goes into performance numbers. The base engine, for example, is a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine rated at 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. It's upgradeable at the Limited, Laramie Longhorn, or Rebel variant to a 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine at 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there's a 3.0L Ecodiesel V6 engine that will give you 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft for torque.

The Ram doesn't stop at engines, though. It also has a coil-spring rear suspension which is exclusive in the class, and an available special self-leveling air suspension. These combine to deliver a best-in-class ride quality.

In the Cabin

There's a range of technology features available inside, divided up among the 1500's eleven different trim levels. It starts with basic cruise control (Tradesman), then jumps to add 110-volt power outlet, automatic climate control, 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect® infotainment system, and power driver seat (Big Horn/Lone Star). From there you can get auto-dim mirrors, heated and cooled front seats which include driver memory settings and 10-speaker audio system (Laramie level).

From here you start to add on more luxurious features. These include keyless entry, keyless ignition, remote start, parking sensors for both the back and front, and GPS navigation (Laramie Longhorn trim). At the top of the range, you'll add automatic high beams and automatic wipers to the mix. This is also where you get that self-leveling suspension system (Limited level).

Off to the side sits the off-road-oriented Rebel, which has its own tech features that include those from the Tradesman and Big Horn, plus LED fog lights, Bilstein shock absorbers, and keyless entry.

Uconnect® Access

The heart and soul of the new Ram technology is the Uconnect® Access infotainment system. This system gives you remote control of your vehicle via smartphone app, satellite radio, smartphone integration (via Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto™), smart GPS navigation, voice commands, and even emergency roadside assistance. It's all right there, at your fingertips.
