2018 Dodge Charger Technology Review

If you're into a classic muscle car, the Dodge Charger is pretty much your comfort zone. It's loud, mean, and high-performing. Inside, however, it's incredibly refined, offering a supremely comfortable and smooth ride while at the same time stuffing the cabin full of the most advanced technology available. It's no wonder muscle car fans in St. Albans, South Burlington, and across Chittenden County take to these sedans.

So, what is the technology like, and what can you expect this year? Let's take a look at the new 2018 Dodge Charger technology, break it down by category and trim level, and learn what you can expect from this model year.

2018 Dodge Charger Technology

These days, a sports car needs more than a sleek body and a powerhouse engine. It needs the best technology, from what's under the hood to what's in the cabin keeping you entertained. Under the hood, the Charger starts with a 300-horsepower, 3.6L Pentastar® Engine which also gets 264 lb-ft of torque.

Other engine options kick it up to 370 horsepower with 395 lb-ft of torque from the 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine, 485 horsepower with 475 lb-ft of torque generated by the 392 HEMI® V8 engine, and the pulse-pounding supercharged 6.2L HEMI® SRT Hellcat V8 engine which gives you 707 horses and 650 lb-ft of torque . As the engine technology increases, so does the supporting underlying architecture, including updated suspension, steering, brakes, and more.

Cabin Technology

The technology inside the cabin is no less impressive. The Dodge Uconnect® infotainment system comes standard with 7-inch touchscreen and features full Bluetooth® connectivity and voice controls, as well as Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ smartphone integration. It's also got two USB ports, six speakers, and satellite radio.

You also get a power-adjustable seat and Keyless Enter 'n Go™. All of this is before you even upgrade to a higher trim. Stepping it up nets you features, such as auto dim mirrors, 8.4-inch touchscreen, more speakers (up to a 10-speaker Beats™ system or a 19-speaker Harman Kardon® system), GPS Navigation, HD™ radio, satellite radio, heated steering wheel and seats, power front seats, and more.

Safety Technology

Safety, of course, is of paramount importance when you're driving a car that has such a powerful engine under the hood, and Dodge seeks to deliver. At the basic level you get parking sensors and rearview camera, with the Technology Group package adding Automatic High Beams and Automatic Windshield Wipers, Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keep Assist.

The GT Plus level hooks you up with Xenon Headlights, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alerts. The new Charger got a 5-star overall rating from the NHTSA, and top Good scores in side impact, roof strength, rear crash protection, and moderate overlap front test scores. In the end, it provides all the active intelligent safety technology you need.
